Assam Governor inaugurates NE Farm and Food Tech- 2018

Guwahati:  A three day North East Farm and Food Tech-2018 organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) was inaugurated on 9 May 2018 at Maniram Dewan Trade Centre, Guwahati.

Inaugurating the event, Assam Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi said that both the Central and the State governments are making coefficient efforts to promote startups and develop entrepreneurship in the North-east.

“I also feel happy to share with you that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has kept the North-east at the heart of country’s Act East Policy and vowed to increase people-to-people contact, trade and other relations with ASEAN members.”, he added.

Prof Mukhi also defined some major shortcomings of the food processing industries of Assam including lack of supply chain, market linkage, storage facilities, packaging, limited use of latest technologies, etc. He also recommended some remedies to eliminate such deficiencies.

Minister of Industries and Commerce Chandra Mohan Patowary in his speech said that if provided with the accessibility of natural resources and attractive tax incentives, the state can become one of the major destinations for the investment.

He also quoted that government is taking a lot of initiatives to promote food processing in the region and is also planning to set up the Primary Producing Centers (PPCs) for the same.
