Badal seeks FDI in food processing sector in India

NEW DELHI: Union Minister of Food Processing, Harsimrat Kaur Badal, addressing a conference on Foreign Direct Investment on Food Processing sectors in India organized by CII here Tuesday, invited foreign companies to invest in food sector in the country which is going to be treble in a couple of years.

Sharing her experience of visiting UK, she said that she had discussed with a host of investors and asked them to tie up with local players to leverage the benefit of NDA government’s policies in this regard.

The Food Secretary, Avinash K Srivastav, who was also present at this event, said the government has stressed for higher allocation of financial resources to achieve a five-fold increase in the Gross Value Addition (GVA) of the food processing industry to the GVA of agriculture.

Big multinational food companies such as Tesco, Marks & Spencer might explore the opportunities in the growing food market of India.
