Bihar plans to copy Sikkim organic model

Gantok : In a bid to emulate the Sikkim organic model, Bihar Agriculture Minister, Prem Kumar, along with high a level delegation of officers visited the ICAR- National organic Farming Research Institute (NOFRI)  in Tadong.

NOFRI Joint Director R.K Avasthi  acquainted  the members about various research , capacity building and skill development works undertaken by the institute and KVKs since last four years , in Eastern district, under the initiative of ‘Doubling farmer’s income by 2022.

The Bihar minister urged the officers to adopt specific programmes and principles from the Sikkim based ICAR institute and implement in Bihar. Further the minister instructed the officers to develop IOFS(integrated Organic Farming System)model at each of KVKs in Bihar to ensure the spread of  technological knowhow  among the farmers.

Interacting with the scientist of NOFRI, the officials discussed the ways of pest management and diseases control in organic farming.
