Central procurement of wheat 11.82% more than last year

New Delhi :  The Centre on Thursday said it has procured 433.32 lakh metric tonnes of wheat, 11.82 per cent more than the corresponding period last year.

The enhanced procurement has brought benefit to 49.16 lakh farmers. Last year, the government had purchased 387.50 lakh metric tonnes.

During the ongoing kharif marketing season, a government statement said, the Centre also procured 865.22 lakh metric tonnes of paddy on MSP for 2020-21, benefitting 127.67 lakh farmers. Government agencies also procured 9,84,202.49  metric tonnes of pulses and oil seeds on MSP, the statement said.

Further, based on the proposal from the States, the Centre approved procurement of 108.42 lakh metric tonnes of Pulse and Oilseeds of kharif marketing season 2020-21 & rabi marketing season 2021 and Summer season 2021 for Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Telangana, Gujarat, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh under Price Support Scheme (PSS).
