Centre developing agri database to help farmers fetch better remuneration

New Delhi, July 31: The Centre is developing a ‘national farmers database’ to increase farm income and ensure better remuneration.

Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar informed the Parliament that a data policy will be brought out to fulfill the objective in consultation with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

Currently, he said the data about the farmers are being collated from the Ministry of Agriculture website and other departments. He said linkages with the digital land record is essential for an accurate and holistic database.

“The aim is to increase farmers’ income by leveraging the available data and developing solutions based on the data so that the input costs are reduced, ease of farming is ensured, quality is improved and farmers get better price for their farm produce,” Tomar said in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha.

The Minister said his department is in the process of finalizing the ‘India Digital Ecosystem of Agriculture (IDEA) for digitization of the agriculture sector in the country.  It will lay down the architecture of the ‘unified farmers service interface called ‘Agristack’ to roll out innovative solutions focused on agriculture.
