
CIFRI imparts skills to Bihar farmers for enhancing fish production
BARRACKPORE (KOLKATA): Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute ( CIFRI) held a short-term training programme of seven days on Inland Fisheries Management for the farmers from Gopalganj district, Bihar on Thursday at CIFRI headquarters, Barrackpore. Dr. B.K. Das, Director, CIFRI inaugurated the training programme.
A total of 25 farmers from Gopalganj District, Bihar participated in the programme. The module of the training programme was developed after assessing the training need of the farmers. As in Gopalganj district the total wetland area is 10490 ha including rivers and streams, natural waterlogged area, small water bodies, tanks etc, so there is ample scope to improve the livelihoods of the people through building of capacity in inland fisheries management.
The programme was targeted to strengthen the practical skills of the farmers for enhancing fish production in open waters viz. maun, chaur, ponds and tanks through practicals, field exposure visits, demonstrations and class room sessions.In the current financial year, ICAR-CIFRI imparted training to 107 farmers from four districts of Bihar, Muzaffarpur, Motihar, Bettiah nd Vaishali. These training programmes are coordinated by Extension and Training Cell, CIFRI.
