
DADF issues guidelines to contain H5N8 Virus
New Delhi: The Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Saturday has issued guidelines to the state governments and the zoo authorities on control and containment of the infection of H5N8 AIV or a subtype of Avian Influenza virus.
The Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change has also been requested to issue advisories to all the wildlife/ bird sanctuaries in the country to be on alert and take necessary actions for prevention of the disease.
However, government has clarified that H5N8 virus does not have any record of affecting human beings anywhere in the world. But necessary precautions are to be undertaken while handling sick/ dead birds.
National Institute for High Security Animal Diseases (NIHSAD), Bhopal informed that the bird flu virus, H5N8 AIV has been confirmed in Delhi and Gwalior Zoos on Wednesday in the meeting with National Zoological Park (NZP) and along with the officials of National Centre for disease Control (NCDC) at Ram Monohar Lohia hospital here.
