Demonstrations on Pulses and Oilseeds – State level workshop in Gujarat

Gujarat: A 3 day-long State level review workshop-cum-training programme organized by ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Pune and Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bhavnagar on “Cluster Front Line Demonstrations on Pulses and Oilseeds” for 30 KVKs of Gujarat concluded on December 09, 2018. The workshop was organized from 7th to 9th December, 2018.

Dr. Randhir Singh, ADG (Agricultural Extension), ICAR, New Delhi in his inaugural discussed about the status of oilseeds and pulses production, problems in increasing the production, value addition and processing, pest scenario and export scenario.  He also suggested the innovative marketing strategies, residue management, effective utilization of technologies in tackling the adverse effect of climate change, etc.

Dr. Lakhan Singh, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Pune urged the KVK experts for maintaining the visibility of KVK in the district, understand the concept of frontline extension, record observations on yield and record climate sensitive data and using the resource conservation technologies. He focused on the use of latest technologies developed by ICAR Institutes and SAUs under frontline demonstrations.

The Action Plan of ARYA Project to attract and retain youth in agriculture at 11 centres (6 KVKs in Maharashtra and 5 in Gujarat) was also reviewed during the programme.

Dr. K.A. Thakkar, Director, Extension Education, SDAU, S.K. Nagar highlighted the need for effective monitoring mechanism for effective technology application.

A total of 60 heads, scientists and SMSs of 36 Krishi Vigyan Kendras of Gujarat and Maharashtra attended the workshop.
