
Dept. of Animal Husbandry has prepared a new system to identify and trace animals
NEW DELHI: The Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries (DADF) has prepared a system, Animal Identification and Traceability System (AI&TS) to identify and trace animals and a proposal regarding this will soon be placed before the Cabinet, Minister of State for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Sudarshan Bhagat informed the Lok Sabha on Monday.
After approval of Expenditure Finance Committee( EFC) , the proposal would be sent to Cabinet for approval. The EFC had a meeting with the Ministry of Finance on 5th August, 2016. Inthe first phase, the cattle and buffaloes would be covered under AI&TS list for identification, monitoring of artificial insemination and birth of calf.
The Livestock Health and Disease Control (LH&DC) scheme envisages issuing of animal health card for which the DADF is providing financial assistance. The funds are given under Foot and Mouth Disease Control Programme (FMDCP) to maintain record of vaccination of these animals which would tackle the problem outbreak of livestock diseases in addition of breeding activities proposed under AI&TS.
