Devendra Fadnavis Promises Big Farm Loan Waiver by October 31

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has promised the biggest ever loan waiver for the farmers in the State by October 31.

 

The decision will benefit as many as 1.07 crore farmers with less than five acre land holding. Though according to the estimates it is likely to cost the state exchequer Rs 30,000 crore, Maharashtra’s Finance Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar did not divulge the financial details.

 

The farmers in Maharashtra are up in arms against the government since 1st June. They have been protesting against the government for failing to fulfil the promises like loan waiving and minim support prices among others. They are demanding the implementation of the MS Swaminathan Committee report.
