Farmers to get PUSA Arhar-16 from next Kharif

New Delhi: Unlike the traditional variety of pulses that takes 170 days to mature, the new PUSA Arhar-16 will mature in 120 days. Apart early maturity, the variety will have high productivity. This was informed by Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh after making a filed visit to PUSA Monday.

Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley who had also made the field visit with Singh appreciated the efforts of scientists in developing the new variety.

Singh, while talking to reporters, said, “PUSA Arhar-16 is extra early maturing, semi-dwarf, determinate, high yielding variety. This will be available to farmers from next Kharif season”.

Among others Shobhna K. Pattanayak, Secretary, Department of Agriculture, Cooperation and Farmers Welfare, Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Director General, ICAR, Chhabilendra Roul, Secretary, ICAR and Director, IARI, Dr. Ravindra Kaur were also present on this occasion  .
