Fertilizer Secretary distributes agri-input kits to cyclone affected farmers in Puri district

Odisha: Coastal districts of Odisha have been hit by the extremely severe cyclonic storm ‘Fani’. Puri, Khurdha, Cuttack, Jagatsingpur, Kendrapra, Bhadrak, Balasore, and Mayurbhanj districts have been severely affected by the cyclonic storm.  It was the severest cyclone to hit the State since the Super Cyclone of 1999 which has devastated vast areas of the State uprooting lakhs of trees, damaging houses and agricultural crops.

To extend some relief to Fani affected farmers of coastal districts of Puri, Khurda, Jagatsingpur and Cuttack, Fertilizer Companies which are operating in the region i.e. IFFCO, KRIBHCO, Coromandel, PPL, NFL and RCF under the active support of Department of Fertilizers, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India, have come forward to provide assistance in the form of Agri-input kits to about twenty thousand farmers of the above districts. Agri-input Kit includes seeds, fertilizers, bio-fertilizers, micro nutrients and seedlings.  Farmers of different villages under Brahmagiri , Delanga, Satyabadi, Pipili, Nimapada, Gop and Kanas Blocks of Puri district, Balipatna, Balianta, Blocks of Khurdha district, Jagatsingpur, Raghunathpur, Blocks of Jagatsinghpur and Niali, Kantapada, Blocks of Cuttack will be benefitted from the distribution of Agri-input Kits.

The programme was flagged off on 8th June 2019 at Sadanandpur village in Puri district in the presence of Shri Chhabilendra Roul, Secretary Fertilizers, Government of India, Dr. Saurabh Garg, Principal Secretary Agriculture, Govt. of Odisha, Dr. Pawan Agarwal, Vice Chancellor, OUAT, Odisha, Shri Rakesh Kapur, President, International Fertilizer Association (IFA) and Joint MD, IFFCO and Heads of other Fertilizer Companies.  About 300 farmers were distributed Agri-input kits on this occasion.

Addressing to the farmers on this occasion, Shri Chhabilendra Roul, Secretary Fertilizers, Government of India said, “It was a very good initiative by the fertilizer companies. It is also a timely intervention to support the affected farmers the support of agriculture department officers in this endeavor is praise worthy”.

Other dignitaries present on this occasion included U C Dhatrak, CMD, RCF, Rajeev Chandok, Director (F) NFL, V S Sirohi, MKD, KRIBHCO, R S Chug, COO, PPL, Dipatanu Bhattacharjee (Head) Coromondal

The programme will continue in different areas by IFFCO, KRIBHCO, Coromandel, PPL, NFL and RCF.
