Food processing enterprises should keep consumers demand in mind, says MD Punjab Agro Industries Corp

Ludhiana, Oct 29: Food processing enterprises need to the planned keeping in mind the demand of the consumers, Managing Director of Punjab Agro Industries Corporation S. Manjit Singh Brar on Friday said.

Addressing the opening function of the ‘Food Industry and Craft fair’ at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), he said that although the food industry is a favourite among farmers attached with both small and big processing enterprises, consumer demands have to be kept in mind while operating them.

The uphill task in this area is the marketing of its products as consumers will accept only quality products. He also stressed the need to tap the increasing demand for organic products, saying profits can be generated only by making difference between sales and marketing.

President of PAU Kisan Club and founder of Upaj Farm Products Lakhowal S. Amarinder Singh said that with the efforts of PAU many farmers are adopting processing and post-harvest businesses techniques.

PAU’s Additional Director of Research Dr Ajmer Singh Dhatt talked about the University’s fresh innovations in the food industry and processing field.

“Now the issue is of unseen appetite. There is a need to be aware of the effect on food items from field to platter. It is important to have balanced nutrition in the food products as per the demand of consumers,” he said.

Director of Extension Education Dr Jaskarn Singh Mahal said that PAU trained entrepreneurs have joined the fair to motivate novice trainees.

The fair was divided into four sessions. They cantered around processed food and skill, lifestyle diseases, methods to adopt art & craft and food industry and training.
