Govt spends Rs 563 Cr as MSP during ongoing kharif season
New Delhi, Oct 6: The government has spent Rs 563.60 crore as the minimum selling price during the ongoing kharif marketing season for paddy procurement.
As of October 5, it procured 2,87,552 metric tons of paddy, benefitting 29,907 farmers, said a government statement. Out of this procurement, 1,46,509 MT paddy has been procured in Haryana and 1,41,043 MT paddy procured in Punjab.
On the other hand, paddy procurement in the 2020-21 kharif season has almost concluded with the purchase of 894.24 lakh metric tons of paddy (includes kharif crop of 718.09 lakh metric tons and rabi crop of 176.15 lakh metric tonne up to October 5 as against the last year corresponding purchase of 768.70 lakh metric tons, said the government statement.
Similarly, in the Rabi marketing season of 2021-22, 433.44 lakh metric tons of wheat was procured, an all-time high, and about 49.20 lakh farmers benefitted.
