Haryana Opens Purchase Centres for Sunflower
Chandigarh: With a view to facilitating the process of procurement of sunflower seeds at Minimum Support Price (MSP), Haryana State Cooperative Supply and Marketing Federation Limited (HAFED) has decided to open two more purchase centers at Ladwa and Pehowa in the Kurukshetra district of the state.
According to Harvinder Kalyan, Chairman, HAFED, since the farmers were selling their Sunflower seed crop at the prevailing market rate, which was much lower than the Minimum Support Price (MSP), this forced the Haryana government to come forward to safeguard the interest of the farmers and to procure FAQ Sunflower Seed at the MSP of Rs 3,950 per quintal, including a bonus of Rs 100, which is well above the prevailing market rate.
It has been decided that HAFED would purchase the Sunflower Seed at MSP under the Government of India Price Support Scheme (PSS) on behalf of Nafed.
Harvinder Kalyan said that this procurement of Sunflower seed initially began in Ambala City and Shahbad Mandies from June 12, 2017. However make the procurement process much faster two more purchase centers are being opened at Ladwa and Pehowa. This procurement process will remain in operation till July 31, 2017.
Till now the HAFED has procured 1811 quintal Sunflower Seed, directly from the farmers through the shops of its member Cooperative Marketing Societies. The farmers are getting their payments through RTGS to their bank accounts.
