ICAR- Manipur Centre celebrates National Mushroom Day

Imphal:  ICAR Research Complex for North Eastern Hills Region, Manipur Centre, Imphal in collaboration with Agri-Business Incubation Centre celebrated the National Mushroom Day – 2018 at its campus on December 22. This year, the theme was kept “Mushroom in Vertical Farming”.

In his inaugural speech, the Chief Guest, K. Kipgen, Director, Department of Horticulture and Soil Conservation, Government of Manipur applauded the ICAR’s efforts to organize such important event in Manipur. He also highlighted the Manipur State’s potential of growing mushroom. He emphasized on benefits of schemes of MIDH that can be availed by mushroom growers of the state.

The Guest of Honor, Dr. R. Ravi Babu, Deputy General Manager, NABARD, Manipur RO accentuated on the importance of mushroom in doubling up farmers’ income and transforming their lives.

In his Presidential address, Dr. I. Meghachandra Singh, Joint Director, ICAR, Manipur Centre emphasised on producing mushroom in an eco-friendly way and highlighted the technologies that have been developed and disseminated by ICAR in the designated field.

The event also held presentations by ICAR experts on mushroom production and processing.

During the valedictory function, the exhibitors Leima Mushroom, Imphal East, Hee Yai Mushroom, Imphal East and Aapihang Food Processing Centre, Chandel were awarded first, second and third prizes respectively

The programme registered a total footfall of more than 50 mushroom growers from different parts of the state, ICAR scientists and representative from KVKs and NABARD.
