ICAR Regional Committee Meets at Agartala

NEW DELHI: The 22nd meeting of the Regional Committee Zone –III of the ICAR was organized at Agartala.

Manik Sarkar, Chief Minister, Tripura graced the closing ceremony as Chief Guest and praised the efforts of agricultural scientists in the region. He also stressed on the importance of collaborative efforts of agricultural scientists and allied industries for holistic development of agriculture.

Aghore Debbarma, Minister (Agriculture, ARDD & Tribal Welfare) of Tripura, Dr. B. D. Chakma, Minister of State (Fisheries) of Mizoram,  Khagendra Jamatia, Minister (Forest & RD) of Tripura and Lt. Col. (Retd) Z. S. Zuala, Parliamentary Secretary (Home, E&N,Agriculture & RD) also remarked on the present status and need for more research and developmental work on agriculture, animal husbandry and fisheries etc.

Dr. G.S.G. Ayyangar, Principal Secretary (Agriculture and RD), Govt. of Tripura,  Y. Kumar, Commissioner and Secretary (Fisheries), Govt of Tripura and Shri  T Imkonglemba,  APC, Government of Nagaland participated in the deliberations.

Dr. S. Ayyappan, Secretary (DARE) and Director General (ICAR) chaired the meeting and gave valuable directions and suggestions for future actions on the issues in the agenda items.

Members of the Governing Body (ICAR)  Ratneshwari Prasad Singh, Ram Krishna Kushmaria, Suresh Chandel and Sudhir Kr. Bhargava graced the meeting and gave valuable advices for holistic improvement of the entire NEH Region.

Dr. S. V. Ngachan, Director, ICAR RC NEH Region, welcomed the delegates and presented the action taken report.

Research, education and extension issues on agriculture and allied disciplines of the eight NE states,  Tripura, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland and Sikkim, were extensively discussed under different agenda items.

An exhibition on different agricultural technologies developed by ICAR RC NEH Region was also arranged on the occasion.

Vice Chancellors of Agricultural Universities of the region, Deputy Directors General and Assistant Directors General (ICAR), Directors of ICAR Institutes, senior officials of State Line Departments and officials from ICAR headquarters participated in the deliberations.
