IIHR organizes a training programme on “Improved Horticultural Technologies”

KARNATAKA: Indian Institute of Horticulture Research(IIHR) organized a special training on “Improved Horticultural Technologies” for watershed farmers of Karnataka during  26–29 July, 2016. Sujala-III, Department of Horticulture, Govt. of Karnataka sponsored this programme.

There were 21 participants from Gulbarga and Raichur districts of Karnataka, who are engaged in various farming activities including cultivation of horticultural crops in their farms.

The resource persons facilitated the participants to acquire the knowledge, skill and to understand the latest techniques in quality vegetable seedling/planting material production, crop production/management; integrated practices in water, nutrient, pest and disease management, post harvest management techniques and soil less cultivation in vegetable and ornamental crops.

Most of the presentations in the class were coupled with field visits and practical classes for the benefit of the participants. The participants also visited model nurseries, poly houses and seedling nurseries etc., as part of their training programme to understand real farm situations and to get first hand exposure and information.

The trainees are very much satisfied with the programme and opined that have learnt good agriculture practices pertaining to improved horticultural technologies to implement at their farm situations.

Dr Achala Paripurna, Principal Scientist and Dr R Venkattakumar, Principal Scientist and Head, Division of Social Sciences and Training coordinated the programme.
