Kharif Crop Sowing Covers 81.33 Lakh Hectare So Far
New Delhi: The total sown area of kharif crops as of now, according to the agriculture ministry, stands at 81.33 lakh hectare (LH) , as compared to 72.31 lakh hectare at this time last year.
Barring Jute & Mesta the area under kharif crops has shown an increase from the year-ago period.
Rice has been sown in 5.51 lakh hectare, pulses in 1.64 lakh ha, coarse cereals in 4.59 lakh ha, oilseeds in 1.27 lakh ha and Cotton in 14.06 lakh ha.
Sugarcane has been sown in 47.39 lakh hectare so far, this season as against 44.82 LH in the year-ago period.
Since kharif crops are heavily rain fed, the prediction of a good Monsoon will stand in good stead for the sowing of the kharif crops.
