Koraput Named Globally Important Agriculture Heritage Site
Koraput in Odisha has been designated by the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) as “Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems (GIAHS)”.[mom_row][/mom_row]The GIAHS project, which was launched by the UN agency in 2002 during the “World Summit on Sustainable Development” in Johannesburg, has been initiated by FAO in order to safeguard and support the world’s agricultural heritage systems.
Eminent agro scientist M.S. Swaminathan attributed the recognition to the work done by the M. S. Swaminathan
Research Foundation (MSSRF) scientists.
