Mega food parks generated over 6 lakh jobs; Govt in Parliament

New Delhi: More than six lakh direct and indirect employment opportunities have been generated through the 22 operational mega food parks in the country, the Centre has informed the Parliament.

In a written reply in Lok Sabha on Tuesday, Minister of State for Food Processing Industries Prahlad Singh Patel said that in all 6.66 lakh jobs have been generated by the 22 operational mega food parks.

Each mega food has the capacity to create direct and indirect employment opportunities for 5000 persons. The Ministry has accorded approval to 38 parks, out of which 22 are in operations, he said.

The Ministry of Food Processing Industries has been implementing mega food park scheme to create modern infrastructure for the food processing sector. The proposals under scheme for setting up of the parks  are invited through expression of Interest.
