MSP for agri sector for 2022-23 proposed at Rs 2.37 L Cr

New Delhi, Feb 1: Laying the framework for sustained agriculture sector growth during 2022-23 financial year, the Government on Tuesday proposed an outlay of Rs 2.37 lakh crore as MSP for the kharif and paddy farmers.

The Union Budget for 2022-23, presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, has proposed to procure 1000 LMT paddy, benefitting over 1 crore farmers.

The budget has proposed chemical-free natural farming throughout the country in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s assertion on reducing input co. In the first stage,  the focus will remain on farmers’ land within 5 km wide corridors along the river Ganga.

States will be encouraged to revise syllabi of agricultural universities to meet the needs of natural, zero-budget & organic farming, modern-day agriculture, the Minister said.

With a focus on technology, the budget has proposed to finance the start-ups for agriculture and rural enterprises that are relevant for the farm produce value chain. The financing of the start-ups will be facilitated through NABARD.

Kisan droned will be promoted for crop assessment, digitization of land records, spraying of insecticides and nutrients.

The FM said that procurement of wheat in Rabi season 2021-22 and the estimated procurement of paddy in Kharif season 2021-22 will give cover 1208 lakh metric tonnes of wheat and paddy from 163 lakh farmers.
