Navnirman Krushak Sangathan staged sit-in-protest in district headquarters across Odisha
Bhubaneswar: Navnirman Krushak Sangathan (NKS) has launched a state wide protest against state government’s apathy towards farmers’ problems. The volunteers of the farmers’ outfit have staged fast protest in front of collectors’ offices across Odisha.
“Our volunteers have staged protests across the state against the callousness of the government towards the issues of farmers. We have been demanding price, pension and prestige for the farmers. The government has money for everything. But they don’t have money for the farmers. It is unfortunate. More than 70% people directly and indirectly depend on the agriculture in the state,” said Akshay Kumar, national convener, Naba Nirman Krushak Sangathan.
“The government lacks sincerity it its approach towards providing social security allowance to the farmers,” added Kumar.
NNKS had boycotted the ministerial committee meeting held last Friday protesting non-inclusion of their demands such as social security allowance to the farmers in the agenda of the meeting.
Following a state wide protest last month, the government had announced formation of a ministerial committee headed by state Finance Minister, Shashi bhusan Behera to address the demands of the farmer organization.
Since, the government did not include their demands in the agenda of the first ministerial meeting on 7th December, the farmers outfit stayed away from the meeting and have planned to launch a statewide stir to put pressure on the government to accept farmers’ demands.
