Organic Farming Area Increased to 20 Lakh Hectares during 2014-17

New Delhi: Organic farming is gaining a foothold in India. The area under organic farming has increased significantly in the last years. This emanates from the increase in the area under organic farming in the country.

 During the year 2011-14, cumulative area under organic farming has increased from 7.23 lakh hectares to 20 lakh hectares during the year 2014-17, Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Radha Mohan Singh said.

 

Before the advent of Green Revolution in the 1960s, organic farming was widely used in India.

 

The demand for organic products worldwide is increasing at 20-25 per cent per annum. India’s market itself is growing at 40-50 per cent.
