Over 19000 cases of irregularities detected under TPDS scheme & penalized

New Delhi, July 27: The Centre on Tuesday informed Parliament that action has been taken in more than 19000 cases for indulging in irregularities under the Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS).

In all, during the last three years, action has been initiated under the TPDS (Control) Order, 2015 in 19,410 cases spread across several states in the country, Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti said in a written reply in Lok Sabha.

Uttar Pradesh, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh were among the States who reported the maximum number of cases found contravening the relevant provisions of the Order.

The Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS) is operated under the joint responsibilities of the Central and the State/UT Governments.

In a separate reply, Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Ashwini Kumar Choubey said during the last three years, 3,20,754 cases have been disposed by all Consumer Commissions across the country.
