PAU KISAN APP’, A HIT WITH STATE FARMERS

Ludhiana: The Punjab Agricultural University’s mobile phone app called the ‘PAU KISAN APP’, which was created to further strengthen PAU’s connect with farmers  is not just becoming popular among the state farmers but also the extension functionaries and other stake holders linked with the University. The app contains all farmer related information like details of various varieties of different crops, sowing time, diseases and pests of the crops, farm machinery, seed availability and weather forecast etc. The app users are also receiving PAU’s digital weekly magazine called, ‘Kheti Sandesh’, as well as various advisories issued by the University from time to time. Giving further information, PAU Director of Extension Education, Dr J.S. Mahal, said that since all the app data is stored in PAU servers that are updated on a daily basis, every time a farmer opens the app, he sees the latest data pertaining to any farming related information, especially Kharif and Rabi package of practices, published by the University is available through this app. The app also has photographs of various insects, symptoms of diseases and nutrient deficiency of various crops. University videos released from time to time on you tube can also be accessed through this app. Available in Punjabi and English Languages, the app can be downloaded from App Store or Google Play store by registering after entering a valid phone number. The registration is finalized by entering One Time Password (OTP), after which the user gets access to the University information on mobile. Dr Mahal further added that the app will be expanded shortly by adding more information.
