Seeding ration card with Aadhaar has reached 92.8%; Centre informs Parliament

New Delhi, July 20: The Centre’s ambitious ‘one nation one ration card’ scheme is inching closer to fruition as more than 92.8 per cent of the cards have been seeded with the Aadhaar of the beneficiaries.

Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti informed Parliament in a written reply on Tuesday that 92.8% of the ration cards have been seeded with Aadhaar and the last date to complete the task across the country has been extended up to September 30, 2021. The deadline was to end on July 31.

While 28 states have completed the Aadhaar seeding process, the progress in some of the states has been relatively slow. Linking ration card with Aadhaar is a key requirement for ensuring food security across the country. The other objective is to remove disparities between the states in access to food grains.

The states are Jharkhand (97.5%), Mizoram (97%), Ladakh (94.7%), Nagaland (86%), West Bengal (79.8%), Arunachal Pradesh (59.7%), Assam (18%) and Meghalaya (16.5%) due to multiple process in Aadhaar generation and their delivery to beneficiaries besides other reasons including technical for seeding with ration cards database, the Minister said in her reply in the Lok Sabha.
