Training Programme on “ Herd Management and Breed Improvement” begins in UP
Uttar Pradesh: A five days training programme sponsored by the State Agricultural Management Institute, Rahmankhera, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh for Extension Personnel and farmers of various districts of UP started on Monday.
The programme is being organized by the Joint Directorate of Extension Education, IVRI, Izatnagar on “Herd Management and Breed Improvement” during 12.11.2018 to 16.11.2018.
On the occasion of the inaugural function of the training programme Dr. Mahesh Chander, JDEE (Act.) and Course Director of the course enlightened the participants about the leading role of IVRI in technology generation for improving livestock health and productivity. He emphasized the need to focus more on scientific livestock management for improved productivity of livestock. He motivated the extension personnel and farmers to implement the ideas and knowledge learnt during these five days training. He also stressed on the breed improvement issues and emphasized the role of indigenous livestock for organic farming. He also emphasized that the extension personnel should help the farmers/farmwomen to get their products certified as organic, to create a niche in the market for themselves. He motivated the participants to move towards processing, value addition and branding of their products, to earn more from the same produce.
Initially Dr Rupasi Tiwari, Course coordinator of the training programme appraised about the five day rigorous training schedule, wherein, the participants will be exposed towards various aspects of herd management such as scientific housing, scientific feeding, fodder production round the year ,health care management, diseases and their prevention, infertility in livestock and its control, preparation of balanced ration and feeding, care of neonatal calves, zoonotic diseases, First aid, ITK, etc.
A significant focus of the training will be on Breed improvement wherein various topics related to the issue viz, Breed improvement in cattle, AI for breed improvement, selection of indigenous cattle breeds for high milk production, effects of inbreeding and its prevention, selection of bulls for breed improvement and entrepreneurship development and role of indigenous breeds in organic farming will be dealt.
Apart from these topics the training will also focus on the technologies and services of institute, ICT tools available for dairy management, vermicomposting and schemes/ facilities of UP Govt. for dairy farming.
The five day training programme will also include exposure visits to various unitsof institute such as the vermicompost unit, KVK, Milk Processing and packaging plant, Polyclinic and Museum.
A total of 35 participants (Extension personnel and farmers) from various districts of UP viz., Bareilly, Pilibhit, Sahjahanpur, Budaun, Kanpur, Sitapur districts are attending the training programme. The participants seemed were very much enthusiastic to attend the training and showed keen interest in learning the various subjects
