University of Canberra, PAU sign MoU to Cooperate agricultural research and education
Ludhiana, March 13: Punjab Agricultural University yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the University Of Canberra, for cooperation in agricultural research and education. The MoU was signed by PAU Vice Chancellor, Dr B.S. Dhillon and Dr Deep Saini, Vice Chancellor, University of Canberra on behalf of their respective Universities.
Valid for a period of three years, the MoU will promote exchange of scientists, technologists and students, exchange of germplasm and breeding material following regulations of each country, exchange of scientific literature, information and methodology, exchange of scientific equipment as available and required in the programme and development and implementation of collaborative teaching, research and extension.
In his remarks, Dr Dhillon emphasized on the need for collaborative research programmes as well as exchange of faculty and students with foreign universities to help shift focus of curriculum from theory to practical. He further gave a brief outline of various research programmes undertaken by the University. Dr Deep Saini applauded PAU’s recognitions and also dwelled on starting a joint degree programme ‘Masters in Environmental Sciences’, which will be applicable throughout the country and help to create impact in stemming environmental issues.
The hour long meeting with senior PAU officials also explored course contents, credit hours, semester wise break down of various courses and research methodology.
The other dignitaries accompanying Dr Deep Saini from University of Canberra were Pro Vice Chancellor, Professor Lawrence Pratchett, Executive Dean, Faculty of Science and Technology, Professor Eileen McLaughlin and Executive Dean, Faculty of Health, Professor, Michelle Lincoln.
