
Vegetable Oil Imports Shrink 6 Percent in Last Six Months
Kolkata: India’s vegetable oil imports have declined by 6 per cent to 7.13 million tonnes during November 2016-April 2017 as against 7.57 mt in the same period last year revealed data compiled by the Solvent Extractors’ Association of India (SEA).
However, Import of vegetable oil imports during April 2017 was highest at 13,39,489 tonnes, up by 7 per cent, against the corresponding month last year. Imports during April constitute 1,324,014 tonnes of edible oils and 15,475 tonness of non-edible oils.
It is pertinent to note that non-edible oils imports during November 2016-April 2017 stood at 1,39,876 tonnes as compared to 62,480 tonnes, up by 124 percent on year-on-year basis.
Import of edible vegetable oils contracted to 69,94,389 tonnes during November 2016-April 2017 from 75,06,229 tonnes in the same period last year, showing a decline of some 7 percent.
