Jain Irrigation Systems Ltd. (JISL) is the first company in the world to have successfully developed a
Tissue Culture protocol for coffee varieties. JISL has signed a landmark MoU with the Coffee Board of
India for the commercial release of advanced high-quality, disease-resistant coffee plants to
growers. This collaboration is set to transform the coffee industry.

Jain Irrigation has been a pioneer in crop enhancement solutions, having successfully created
highly productive tissue culture banana, pomegranate, and sweet orange plants. This has led
to better-quality produce, higher assured income for farmers, and better-quality exports from
India to the world. Today, we announce the labor of a decade of hard – seven high-yielding
tissue culture varieties of Robustas and Arabicas coffee – developed with a commitment to
quality and innovation by our scientists in the Biotech department. These varieties have been
licensed to JISL by the Coffee Board of India and are now approved for commercial production and
sale.

The Indian coffee sector has been grappling with challenges such as aging plantations and lack
of quality planting material. Tissue-cultured coffee plants offer several advantages that have
the potential to reshape the large and growing coffee industry in India and beyond. About
the innovation, Mr. Ajit Jain, Joint Managing Director, of Jain Irrigation, said, “We are extremely
proud to introduce to the world an elite coffee- a disease-free, genetically uniform, and high
yielding variety – bringing prosperity to Indian coffee farmers and putting Indian coffee on the
global map.”

Coffee Board of India has signed a memorandum of understanding with Jain Irrigation. On the
occasion, Coffee Board Secretary and CEO KG Jagadeesha said, “For the first time in the world,
we have standardized the tissue culture technology for coffee in India. The coffee plants
multiplied using the tissue culture protocols have been evaluated in the fields for the past few
years. They are performing much better than the regular varieties. As part of the MoU, Jain
Irrigation will multiply and sell the identified coffee plants to growers directly while paying a
royalty to the Board.”

The exchange of MoU between Mr. Ajit Jain, JMD, JISL, and Dr. KG Jagadeesha, IAS,
Secretary & CEO Coffee Board, GoI along with JISL team and Coffee Board.

Jain Tissue cultured coffee plants are Elite Mother Plants, meticulously developed for their
high yield, excellent cup quality, and well-balanced canopy architecture. They are true to type,
disease-free, robust, and genetically uniform. These Coffee plants perform optimally when
integrated into Jain Precision Farming Packages, ensuring efficient and sustainable coffee
cultivation. We welcome contract propagation in bulk quantities from institutions, planter
associations, and individual coffee estate owners, further expanding the reach of our
innovative coffee farming solutions.

Agriculture is still inefficient at many levels and new technology is needed to revolutionise
how things have been done for ages. Jain has always vowed to serve farmers, a commitment
seen through every venture we undertake. A clear goal has defined all we do: to make this
world a better place than we found it- for farmers, for our earth and for the future of food. In
In India, farmers have been neglected for centuries and Tissue Culture Coffee is another
transformational solution created by Jain to deliver prosperity to farmers.
