“Women in Agriculture Day” celebrated by ICAR Institutes

ICAR Institutes pan-India celebrated the “Women in Agriculture Day” on December 4, 2018 with full zeal and enthusiasm.

ICAR – CIWA organizes “Women in Agriculture Day” in Puri

Puri: ICAR- Central Institute for Women in Agriculture organized the “Women in Agriculture Day” on 4th December – 2018 at Satyabadi Block of Puri district.

In his presidential address, Dr. S.K. Srivastava, Director, ICAR-CIWA provided an insight on various schemes being carried out by the government in line with the vision of Prime Minister for doubling-up the farmer’s income by 2022. He also ensured the ever-lasting cooperation from ICAR-CIWA in the socio-economic upliftment of women farmers.

Binati Parida, Samiti Sabhya of Satyabadi Block urged the women farmers to adopt family farming at small scale level to generate their income.

Dr. Lipi Das, Head, Division of Gender, Family and Community Studies stressed on the need for carrying out skill-based capacity building programmes for women farmers and urged on forming women groups that can help to avail the credit facilities which, in turn, will help to highlight the involvement of women in farming sector.

Kalu Charan Das, Ward Member assured his full support and coordination for different Agri-horticulture-based activities by women farmers in the area.

During the session, the women farmers also shared their views and experiences and discussed about the constraints being faced by them in the farming field.

Around 160 women farmers and Officers of Line Department along with staff members of ICAR-CIWA participated in the event.

 

ICAR- Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture, Bhubaneswar 

Khordha: ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture organized National Day for Women in Agriculture at its campus in Kausalyaganga, Bhubaneswar in association with Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Khordha on December 4, 2018.

Dr. Bindu R. Pillai, Director, ICAR-CIFA briefed about the main objective of organizing the event and highlighted the role of women groups in adopting the carp seed rearing, breeding and culture of ornamental fishes, carp culture in community ponds and post-harvest processing of freshwater fishes, etc., to strengthen the means of their livelihoods. She also highlighted the several flagship schemes like Scheduled Tribe Component, Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav, Krishi Kalyan Abhiyaan, Farmer First, North East Hill programme, etc., that are being carried out to attract more women  participants in farming fields.

Ashima Patnaik, F.A.-cum-Deputy Secretary, Department of Agriculture and Farmers Empowerment, Government of Odisha marked her presence as the Chief Guest of the programme. In her inaugural address, Patnaik applauded the role of women in agriculture fields and urged several other women to adopt the field as their career as it would help them to earn a self-reliant status in the society.

The Guest of Honour, Litty Pattnaik, Plant Protection Officer, Plant Protection Department, Government of Odisha emphasized on the importance of women in agriculture for the socio-economic development of the society.

The programme registered a footfall of over 300 persons including CIFA officials and farm women from different blocks of Khordha district.
