Young Scientists’ Meet ‘AGRI SEARCH-2050’ Organised

NEW DELHI: The Indian Council of Agricultural Research organised “AGRI SEARCH-2050” here  involving agricultural scientists of National Agricultural Research and Education System (NARES) who will be serving beyond 2030, particularly in the year 2050.

In the inaugural session, Dr. S. Ayyappan, Secretary, DARE and DG, ICAR and  R. Rajagopal, Additional Secretary, DARE and Secretary, ICAR addressed the participants and invitees. It was emphasized that the deliberations will pave the way for generating ideas to concepts, invention-innovation to usable technologies to address the future challenges and needs. A collective thinking on various aspects of agriculture will help in shaping the present agenda to address the future requirements of next generation.

The objective of “AGRI SEARCH-2050 Meet was to get the views of young agricultural scientists on the scenario of agricultural science in 2050 and get suggestion/inputs for the “ICAR VISION -2050” document. The deliberations helped the young scientists to envision agricultural science and overall scenario for 2050 and setting the agenda of agricultural research accordingly.

Ninety young Scientists/Teachers participated and made presentations on Crop Science, Horticulture Science, Natural Resource Management, Agricultural Engineering, Animal Science, Fisheries Science, Agricultural Education and Agricultural Extension in 2050. The unique feature of the Meet was that all the technical sessions were practically managed by them in the presence of senior officials of ICAR. It was a Meet of the young scientists, by the young scientists and for the young scientists.

The AGRI SEARCH-2050 Meet concluded with presentation of recommendations of each Technical Session by the respective chairman of the session. Senior Officials of ICAR expressed their views and appreciated the initiative taken by the Council.
