From Kullu to Dubai: Himachal Pradesh’s Sinduri Pomegranates Reach Global Markets

New Delhi, 22 October 2026 – Pomegranates grown in the hills of Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu district have found their way to the markets of the Gulf, with the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) facilitating a consignment of Sinduri pomegranates to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on 21 October 2026.

The shipment, weighing 1.3 metric tonnes (MT), was exported by Amama Exports and consists of 650 boxes, each containing 2 kg of fruit. The produce was sourced from local farmers in Kullu and the Bhuntar Farmer Producer Organisation (FPO), bringing growers directly into the international supply chain.

The initiative is expected to deliver significant financial benefits to participating farmers, who stand to realise prices approximately 50 per cent higher than those offered in conventional domestic markets. The higher returns are seen as a boost for hill farmers, who often face challenges of limited market access and price volatility.

By connecting FPOs and local producers with overseas buyers, APEDA’s facilitation aims to open new avenues for Himachal Pradesh’s horticultural produce, strengthening farmer incomes and expanding the state’s footprint in global fresh fruit trade.

The consignment marks a step towards diversifying the export basket of the Himalayan region, which is better known for its apples, and showcases the potential of indigenous varieties such as Sinduri pomegranates in international markets.
