Chhattisgarh on Top in Per Hectare Yield of Coconut

The very name of coconut brings to the mind the state of Kerala, which accounts for 37 per cent of the total area under coconut farming in India. However it is Chhattisgarh which is numerouno in terms of productivity.

According to the statistics on coconut production published by the Union Ministry of Agriculture, the total area under coconut farming in Kerala is 7.7 lakh hectares. The state is at sixth place in terms of productivity.

In terms of productivity, Chhattisgarh is at number one with a yield of 16,508 coconuts per hectare and is followed by Andhra Pradesh with 13,732 per hectare. Kerala stands at 9,641 coconuts per hectare.
