National Symposium on Organic Farming for Farmers’ Prosperity

HYDERABAD: The National Symposium on Organic Farming for Farmers’ Prosperity was jointly organized by Ekalavya Foundation, National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj and ICAR-Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture at NIRD & PR, Hyderabad during Saturday & Sunday.

Acharya Dev Vrat, Hon’ble Governor of  Himachal Pradesh in his inaugural address, emphasized on integrated organic farming systems including crops, livestock and other sectors for enhanced profitability. He also stressed on improving milk yield through systematic breed improvement and avoiding inbreeding.

Radha Mohan Singh, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare in his address during  valedictory function appreciated efforts of the participants in identifying crucial issues and suggested that a meeting with Task force on organic and non-chemical agriculture would help in taking them further. He highlighted the efforts of the Government for the welfare of the farmers in general and in particular to promote organic agriculture. He also stressed on Participatory Guarantee System and Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana schemes of the Government.

Dr. Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director, ICAR-CRIDA presented lead paper on research needs in pre- and post-harvest sectors to promote organic farming.
