48 days to Odisha government to meet farmers’ demand
Bhubaneswar: Navnirman Krushak Sangathan (NKS), a farmers’ outfit in Odisha, has given 48 days to the state government to address their demands regards price, pension and prestige to farmers. A group of farmers and youth under the aegis of NKS marched towards state Governor Ganeshi Lal’s house Friday to submit a memorandum about farmers’ issues in Odisha.
They have given a memorandum to the Governor urging his intervention to fulfill their demands for price, pension and prestige to farmers.
“We have submitted a memorandum to Governor. We have given time the state government to fulfill our demands by 31st January. If government fails, we would resume our agitation from February 1st at a big level,” said Akshaya Kumar, national convener, Navnirman Krushak Sangathan (NKS).
The farmers’ outfit is fighting the cause of the farmers for long time in Odisha. Akshaya Kumar was on a fast for last two weeks drawing the attention of the the state government to fulfill farmers’ demands. The farmer leader alleges that the farmers in the state have been neglected over the years.
NKS supporters had also recently staged protests in front of the collectors’ offices across the state against state government’s apathy towards farmers’ problems and sought government’s intervention fulfilling their demands.
