Odisha announces funds of Rs 200 crs to support farmers

In an effort to provide quality seeds and fertilizer to farmers timely during the Kharif and Rabi seasons, the Odisha government announces to constitute two corpus funds of Rs100 crore each. It was decided in a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

 

‘The amount will be utilized only for ‘pre-positioning’ of fertilizer within the state, said Chief Secretary G C Pati.

 

The Odisha State Co-operative Marketing Federation (OSCMF) and Odisha Agro Industries Corporations (OAIC) will be involved in procurement and supply of fertilizers to the farmers through the corpus fund, added Pati.

 

The corpus fund will be shared on a 75:25 basis by OSCMF and OAIC, respectively, for pre-positioning of fertilizers within the state, he said.

 

State agencies like Odisha State Seeds Corporation Ltd (OSSC), OAIC and Odisha State Cashew Development Corporation Ltd (OSCDC) will be involved in the process to ensure adequate quantities of seeds and planting material for the farmers.
