Shri Visakham Thirunal Endowment Lecture delivered at ICAR-CTCRI

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: “In a country like India endowed with diverse and rich fauna, flora and environment, judicious use of natural resources like solar power, water, wind energy etc. will go a long way in ensuring the food security of the nation”, commented Dr. Gurbachan Singh, Chairman, Agricultural Scientists Recruitment Board, New Delhi while delivering the 6th His Highness Sri Visakham Thirunal Endowment lecture on the topic “Challenges of sustainable food security under climate change scenario” at ICAR-Central Tobacco Research Institute, Rajahmundry on 2nd June, 2015.

The endowment lecture was organized by the Indian Society for Root Crops in collaboration with ICAR-CTCRI. Dr. S. K.Chakrabarti, Director of the institute presided over the function and Shri M. Ravi Varma Raja representing the Royal family of Travancore and Dr. T. Janakiram, ADG (Hort. Sci), ICAR, New Delhi offered felicitations. Dr. C. A. Jayaprakas, President, Indian Society for Root Crops welcomed the gathering.

Two cassava varieties, Sree Swarna and Sree Pavithra and two varieties of greater yam, Sree Neelima and Sree Swathi were also formally released during the event. Around 200 participants that included ISRC members, invited guests, research scholars and students took part in this function.

Dr. V. S. Santhosh Mithra, Secretary proposed the vote of thanks.
