Workshop on Crop damage assessment

HYDERABAD: A one-day brainstorming workshop on “Feasibility of remote sensing for crop damage assessment during extreme weather events” was organised at ICAR-Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture, Hyderabad on Monday.

 Dr Ch Srinivasa Rao, Director, ICAR-CRIDA in his opening remarks emphasised that it is necessary and important to assess the spatial extent of damage caused by these events so as to initiate remedial measures to minimize the loss and provide timely relief and compensation to the affected farmers.

Dr M. Prabhakar, Principal Scientist and convener of this workshop shared experiences of CRIDA in using high resolution satellite data for identifying hail damaged crops in Maharashtra along with few successful case studies from abroad.  

Delegates from NRSC, Hyderabad, Agriculture Insurance Co India (AIC), New Delhi, representatives of Line Departments from the State Governments, including scientists from CRIDA participated in the workshop.
