Balyan inagurated National Sheep and Farmer Fair

RAJASTHAN: Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Balyan, Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare inaugurated the National Sheep and Farmers Fair organized at ICAR-Central Sheep and Wool Research Institute, Avikanagar on Monday. In his address, he emphasized the important role of sheep and goat in rural economy, which contributes substantially to livelihood of poor and landless farmers. He also appreciated the recent research outcomes of institute especially in developing triple cross strain (Avishaan), organic farming and work initiated on Dumba sheep.

Dr Balyan also inaugurated the newly built Kisan Ghar, Sports Complex and Sheep Health building.

Dr. H. Rahman, DDG (AS), in his address, appreciated the efforts of the institute in sheep and goat research.

Earlier, Dr S.M.K. Naqvi, Director, ICAR-CSWRI welcomed and briefed on the major activities and achievements of the Institute.

Progressive farmers, NGOs and livestock owners were felicitated on the occasion by the dignitaries for their contribution in sheep and goat sector.

Nearly 2500 farmers and representatives from Rajasthan, Uttrakhand, Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Maharastra and Telangana participated in the fair.

State government departments, NGOs, ICAR Institutes, State Agricultural Universities, Private Sectors and Banks also participated in the exhibition.
